Who cares if one more light goes out in a sky of a million stars?/ Well I do

3 questions for Lucho;
*why is Messi playing in CM, AM, DM, RB, CB positions instead of his natural position and why our philosophy is “can’t keep calm and pass to messi and pray for him to run 40m, dribble past 7 players and score a goal”
*why is there no midfielder in the mf
*do we even have tactics
BARCA THE NEW ARGENTINA ‘10?
There was a time when Maradona was afraid of losing Messi, his star player, when Messi was so done with all the insults and unfair criticism. In the end, they sat down, Maradona found a piece of paper and..
“..he asked Messi to sketch out a system in which he would feel more comfortable playing. Leo, initially surprised, did nothing at first but Maradona insisted.
Messi, who loves attacking teams, thought he knew what was going wrong with the national side. With the abundance of talent in the forward line, it was a question of getting the right mix to guarantee the best performance. And he could play in a position whereby he was instrumental in the creation of the play, but could also affect the result and score.
Leo suggested dispensing with the 4-4-2 system that Maradona employed more often than not, with two wingers (ngel Di Mara and Jons Gutirrez), two centre-midfielders (Mascherano and Vern) and two forwards (Messi and Higuan). Instead, he suggested a 4-3-1-2 or a 3-4-1-2 system – effectively three up front, but with enough players to defend. Someone with lots of running in him, such as Jons or Di Mara could be one of the wingers, going up and down to defend and to attack. Carlos Tvez and Gonzalo Higuan could be the forwards. Leo would mix with the two up front, and the three or four midfielders who were protecting him. That way, he would always be close to the ball.
Maradona agreed.” (Guillem Balague, Messi, 2013)
This happened at Majestic Hotel in Barcelona. Ironic, huh?
But Maradona’s ego was bigger than anything else. He played what he wanted, he did what he wanted. And the result is still too painful to remember.
But a part of me wants Xavi and Luis Enrique to do the same. Criticising and supporting are not same thing. I love Lucho, I will never forget that he retired at Bara and we all want him to be a success at Bara. After all, I am a football romantic. But if he can’t deal with the pressure or read the game like others do, then there is nothing wrong with taking advice. It’s true that I question his decision making, relationship with players or attitude. Maybe he is just nervous, who knows. But the first thing I liked about Lucho was, yes, he was not the best coach out there, we know what happened with Roma but in the end team played beautiful football. He wanted to play beautiful football. What now? Nothing to be happy about. Ajax first half and Almeria were the worst football we played this season.
With Argentina, in 2010, I still remember people asking why was Messi playing so deep, almost next to DM (not that Maradona actually had tactics). Now seeing Messi next to Busquets or chasing the ball next to corner flag, yes ours, brings back the bad memories.
Messi the only creative one, Masche the best DM and CB.
Oddly familiar, isn’t it?
Is it safe to say, Bara, at least, have Surez instead Rodri or even Pipita? Neymar? No, thanks, we are going to rest him so he can play unnecessary matches with the NT (here comes your daily sarcasm).
And if you think forwards assisting more than midfielders is a bad thing, just remember that Luis comes second (Messi – 9) on the list after playing only 3 league games (and he was subbed on after first half in the last one).
I, personally, am not ready to face the same problems all over again. Both Argentina’s and Barcelona’s problem is, it’s not happening because we don’t have good players. Hell, Bara have at least 2 good players for each positions (even though I don’t appreciate every signing the board made so far). But in the end, it’s good enough to dominate the game, or beat fucking Almeria easily (note that Almeria didn’t win any game at their home this season).
2010’s Argentina was one of the bests I’ve ever seen. My favorite Argentina squad (well, not only the ones that called up, it’s always good to mention Zanetti, the ruler of my soul). But no one believes that because why, they couldn’t see the semis? All these wasted years still hurt my soul. I don’t want the same thing to happen to Bara.
With his skills and quality, it’s understandable that everyone sees Messi as the solution and there’s nothing wrong with that. But he shouldn’t be the only one. Everybody wants him to do what he did in 2012. Impossible. Not after all the injuries he had to go through. And it’s not even about injuries or his peformance.
There are 2 things that makes me so angry;
We are wasting our best years but we also waste our best players’ talent.
Just because Lucho can’t solve midfield problem, Surez, Messi, Neymar, Masche can’t play their best
About midfielder, visual proof comes from FourFourTwo x
And if you think this is bad, more is coming.
Yesterday was the first time (at least I don’t know or can’t remember if it happened before 2006), a Messi error lead to goal. Why? There was no midfield! Not to mention our too-high-defensive-line.
What’s the point of this post? I don’t know. I am still trying to understand Lucho’s logic, why he is against double pivot or why we don’t have any midfielders playing in the midfield aka where they belong to. Note that, these are my humble opinions. I am not calamity howler, I am not saying we are done, I am just saying it’s sad and frustrating. I see double pivot as our solution, if Lucho disagrees, then it’s fine. But I would really appreciate it if Lucho tries and finds a solution, this is his job after all.
And then we sit down and hope.
